Public Acknowledgment: Honoring Native American Heritage and Recognizing Historical Injustice
Today, on Native American Heritage Day, the Peace Economy Project acknowledges the profound historical injustices faced by Native American communities. For centuries, Indigenous peoples have endured displacement, violence, and the militarization of their lands—actions that violated their sovereignty, devastated their cultures, and inflicted generational harm.
From the forced removal during the Trail of Tears to the seizure of sacred sites for military installations, these injustices are deeply entwined with our nation’s history. Many of the lands that Native communities once cared for have been transformed into sites of extraction, exploitation, and conflict—robbing them of their heritage and the natural balance they so deeply respected.
We must also recognize that despite these systemic oppressions, Native American leaders have been at the forefront of movements for peace, environmental stewardship, and social justice. Their resilience and wisdom continue to guide efforts to build a fairer and more sustainable future.
At Peace Economy Project, we are committed to addressing these injustices by advocating for equitable resource allocation, amplifying Indigenous voices, and supporting demilitarization efforts that respect tribal sovereignty and protect sacred lands.
Today and every day, we stand in solidarity with Native communities, honoring their contributions, respecting their rights, and committing to a future where justice prevails.
