My Vision of a Peace Economy

by Erin Coleman, Police Militarization Intern

My vision of a peace economy is a vision of the world breaking free
from neoliberal capitalism. A peace economy would not have a place for
violent militarized masculinity, and it would not fit into a
patriarchal society.

American culture and the cultural constructs of power that exist in
this country would be completely changed with a peace economy;
hegemonic masculinity could not be the dominant source of power. A
peace economy would obviously affect the value of the military within
the United States, but it could also change the meaning of power so
that it is not exclusively masculine.

With a peace economy, the United States could be free from a violent
capitalist economy that values military spending over the rights of
citizens.
