While company executives frame this as a \u201cstrategic expansion,\u201d the move reveals deeper truths about our national economy\u2014truths that demand attention from anyone concerned with peace, justice, and community well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">War Jobs, Not Community Jobs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Boeing insists that the St. Louis region will remain busy\u2014producing new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boeing.com\/defense\/f-15ex\" title=\"\">F-15EX fighters<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boeing.com\/defense\/t-7a\" title=\"\">T-7A Red Hawk<\/a> trainers,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.boeing.com\/defense\/mq25\" title=\"\"> MQ-25 drones<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/104572\/joint-direct-attack-munition-gbu-313238\/\" title=\"\">JDAM munitions<\/a>, and even the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/air\/first-f-47-6th-generation-fighter-now-being-built\" title=\"\">Air Force\u2019s next-generation fighter<\/a>. In other words, this is not a step back from war production. The skills of machinists, engineers, and technicians are desperately needed in civilian industries:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Renewable energy and green infrastructure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Public transportation systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Housing retrofits and climate resilience projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Redirecting federal investment could ensure workers keep their livelihoods <strong>without depending on weapons production.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Peace Economy Alternative<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Boeing\u2019s decision underscores why we need <strong>planned conversion from a war economy to a peace economy.<\/strong> As long as St. Louis and other regions remain tied to defense contracts, they will be vulnerable to corporate decisions that prioritize profits over people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">We call on policymakers, unions, and community leaders to use this moment as a pivot point:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Invest in non-military industries<\/strong> that meet human needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Support striking workers<\/strong> in their demand for fair treatment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Develop long-term economic conversion plans<\/strong> so communities no longer depend on the military-industrial complex for survival.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The real future of St. Louis\u2014and of our nation\u2014must not rest on endless war production.
