These actions\u2014resulting in multiple deaths without transparent evidence or congressional authorization\u2014violate both domestic and international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">As Senator Jack Reed, ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/09\/15\/politics\/trump-strike-international-waters\" title=\"\">has noted<\/a>: <em>\u201cThere is no evidence \u2013 none \u2013 that this strike was conducted in self-defense. That matters, because under both domestic and international law, the U.S. military simply does not have the authority to use lethal force against a civilian vessel unless acting in self-defense.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">We urge Congress to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Hold Immediate Hearings<\/strong> to investigate the legality of these strikes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Demand Transparency<\/strong> from the Department of Defense and the Trump Administration regarding the evidence used to justify lethal action.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Reassert Congressional Authority<\/strong> over matters of war and peace, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Unchecked executive war powers erode democracy and escalate conflicts abroad.
