The Peace Economy Project condemns former President Trump\u2019s recent \u201cChipocalypse Now<\/a>\u201d social media post, which mocked Chicago and weaponized the language of war to describe immigration enforcement. Joking about \u201cthe smell of deportations\u201d and invoking the \u201cDepartment of WAR\u201d is not only dehumanizing\u2014it is dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Militarized rhetoric has real consequences. History shows us that when leaders use the language of battle to describe immigrants, neighbors, and fellow community members, it paves the way for violence, fear, and the erosion of rights. This is not \u201ctrolling.\u201d This is a deliberate attempt to normalize treating immigration as warfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We stand with Governor Pritzker and the people of Illinois in calling this out as unacceptable and not normal. Immigration enforcement must never be framed as war against our own communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of fueling division and fear, our leaders should redirect resources away from militarization and toward policies that strengthen families, create opportunity, and build peace. Every dollar spent militarizing immigration is a dollar not spent on schools, healthcare, housing, and true community safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Peace Economy Project calls on policymakers, the media, and community organizations to reject militarized narratives and to work together to build a society where peace, justice, and human dignity come first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
