{"id":8096,"date":"2025-05-14T13:18:27","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T18:18:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peaceeconomyproject.org\/wordpress\/?p=8096"},"modified":"2025-05-14T13:18:30","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T18:18:30","slug":"millions-will-lose-care-if-congress-cuts-medicaid-act-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peaceeconomyproject.org\/wordpress\/millions-will-lose-care-if-congress-cuts-medicaid-act-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Millions Will Lose Care If Congress Cuts Medicaid\u2014Act Now"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\">House Republicans have just unveiled a devastating plan to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/medicaid\/issue-brief\/putting-880-billion-in-potential-federal-medicaid-cuts-in-context-of-state-budgets-and-coverage\/\" title=\"\">cut $880 billion from Medicaid<\/a><\/strong>, a move that would force <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/millions-face-losing-health-insurance-under-republican-proposal-2070830\" title=\"\">millions of Americans to lose their health care<\/a><\/strong>\u2014all to fund tax breaks for the richest 1%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This proposal is nothing short of a direct assault on the health and well-being of working families, seniors, children, and people with disabilities. What Trump describes as his \u201cbig, beautiful bill\u201d is in fact a brutal redistribution of wealth\u2014from those who need care to those who already control the nation\u2019s wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Let\u2019s be clear: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nachc.org\/medicaid-at-work-a-lifeline-for-millions-and-community-health-center-patients\/\" title=\"\">Medicaid is a lifeline<\/a><\/strong>. It serves over 80 million Americans, including low-income adults, children, pregnant people, and seniors. It provides access to doctors, medications, mental health services, nursing care, and emergency treatment. For many, it\u2019s the only path to staying alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Yet, under this proposal, the Republican leadership is willing to gut this vital program\u2014sending shockwaves through the entire health care system\u2014just to hand out even more tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>This is part of a larger pattern.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Since taking office for a second term, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/americanoversight.org\/investigation\/the-trump-administrations-dismantling-of-federal-agencies-and-threats-to-important-social-services\/\" title=\"\">Donald Trump has focused on dismantling the programs that protect and serve the American people<\/a><\/strong>\u2014from the Social Security Administration to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. And now, Medicaid is in the crosshairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This isn\u2019t fiscal responsibility. It\u2019s economic overreach disguised as policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The proposed cuts would:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/millions-of-americans-may-lose-health-insurance-under-gop-tax-plan-heres-who-will-be-affected-most-bd965669\" title=\"\">Kick millions off of health care coverage<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aamc.org\/about-us\/aamc-leads\/proposed-cuts-medicaid-would-harm-patients-and-hospitals\" title=\"\">Weaken hospital systems<\/a><\/strong>, especially in rural and underserved areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/05\/14\/nx-s1-5396697\/medicaid-cuts-trump-republicans-andy-beshear\" title=\"\">Drive up costs<\/a><\/strong> for everyone, insured or not<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/unidosus.org\/publications\/medicaid-cuts-would-rip-away-health-coverage-from-millions-of-americans-disproportionately-harming-people-of-color\/\" title=\"\">Deepen racial and economic disparities in health outcomes<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Meanwhile, the ultra-wealthy would benefit from new tax breaks\u2014funded by the suffering of those who can least afford to lose care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">At <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/peaceeconomyproject.org\/wordpress\/\" title=\"\">Peace Economy Project<\/a><\/strong>, we believe national strength is measured not by military spending or luxury jets, but by how we care for our people. A healthy population is a secure population.
