{"id":7851,"date":"2025-03-20T10:41:11","date_gmt":"2025-03-20T15:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peaceeconomyproject.org\/wordpress\/?p=7851"},"modified":"2025-03-20T10:43:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T15:43:48","slug":"a-better-future-begins-today-block-u-s-arms-sales-to-end-the-bloodshed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peaceeconomyproject.org\/wordpress\/a-better-future-begins-today-block-u-s-arms-sales-to-end-the-bloodshed\/","title":{"rendered":"A Better Future Begins Today: Block U.S. Arms Sales to End the Bloodshed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\">As the fragile ceasefire in Gaza has collapsed, the world is once again witnessing an escalation of violence with devastating human consequences. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-palestinians-hamas-war-news-ceasefire-hostages-03-18-2025-0df87331efc6a7b1dfd99275f52868a5\" title=\"\">At least 400 Palestinians have been killed and over 500 injured in a new wave of Israeli strikes, many of them women and children<\/a>.<\/strong> The renewed assault underscores the urgent need to rethink U.S. military aid and arms transfers to Israel, which continue to fuel the destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">For decades, the U.S. has provided Israel with unconditional military support, sending billions of dollars in weapons and funding despite mounting reports of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2024\/11\/14\/israels-crimes-against-humanity-gaza\" title=\"\">human rights violations<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/press-releases\/2024\/06\/un-report-israeli-use-heavy-bombs-gaza-raises-serious-concerns-under-laws\" title=\"\">indiscriminate bombings<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2023\/dec\/05\/israel-disproportionate-force-tactic-infrastructure-economy-civilian-casualties\" title=\"\">disproportionate use of force against civilians<\/a>.<\/strong> Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we challenge this status quo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Congress Must Act<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">There are already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanders.senate.gov\/press-releases\/news-sanders-files-joint-resolutions-of-disapproval-to-block-trump-arms-sales-to-israel\/\" title=\"\">bills in Congress aimed at <strong>blocking U.S. arms transfers to Israel<\/strong><\/a>, yet many lawmakers previously used the ceasefire as a justification for their inaction. That excuse no longer exists. The violence has resumed, and with it, our responsibility to demand change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/press-releases\/2024\/06\/states-and-companies-must-end-arms-transfers-israel-immediately-or-risk\" title=\"\">Continuing arms sales and military aid to Israel in this moment is a clear endorsement of war crimes and occupation<\/a>.<\/strong> It enables ongoing civilian casualties and deepens the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. This is not just a policy failure\u2014it is a moral failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Financial Cost of War<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">At a time when <strong>our own communities suffer from <a href=\"https:\/\/parents4publicschools.org\/when-schools-are-underfunded-children-suffer\/\" title=\"\">underfunded schools<\/a>, a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/health-costs\/issue-brief\/americans-challenges-with-health-care-costs\/\" title=\"\"> lack of affordable healthcare<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfr.org\/backgrounder\/state-us-infrastructure\" title=\"\">crumbling infrastructure<\/a><\/strong>, the U.S. is spending billions on war.
