Widespread\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2014%2F08%2F15%2Fus%2Fferguson-missouri-in-wake-of-clashes-calls-to-demilitarize-police.html\">concerns about the militarization of police,<\/a>\u00a0including the free exchange of weaponry between the military and U.S. police forces, were echoed by pro-Palestinian Twitter users, who\u00a0made direct comparisons between treatment of Ferguson protesters by police and treatment of Palestinians by the Israel Defense Forces, the Times of Israel\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.timesofisrael.com%2Fpalestinians-tweet-support-for-ferguson-protesters%2F\">reported.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another Palestinian user, @MariamBarghouti, tweeted tips to Ferguson residents for how to cope with tear gas.<\/p>\n<p>Journalist\u00a0Glenn Greenwald, who rocketed to national fame after his cooperation with former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, posited a more direct link between Missouri police and the IDF.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2Fggreenwald%2Fstatus%2F499919889428385792\">He retweeted an ADL press release<\/a>\u00a0posted by Iranian activist Trita Parsi, which revealed that St. Louis County police chief Timothy Fitch had studied counter-terrorism tactics in Israel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSt. Louis County Police Chief, in 2011, on visiting Israel to learn about police tactics from the Israelis,\u201d Greenwald added.<\/p>\n<p>Greenwald\u2019s statement drew ire from blogger\u00a0Andrew Breitbart, who\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com%2FBig-Journalism%2F2014%2F08%2F14%2FColumnist-Glenn-Greenwald-Somehow-Blames-Israel-for-Ferguson-Riots\">stated that<\/a>\u00a0\u201ctying Israel to what is going on in Ferguson is so tangential that it borders on anti-Semitic paranoia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Israeli-Palestinian cease-fire\u00a0talks forge ahead in Cairo, the nightly violence in Ferguson continues unabated. Missouri Gov.\u00a0Jay Nixon has called in the National Guard to try to quell the unrest.<\/p>\n<p>In an interconnected world, in which outbreaks of violence continents away from each other unfold on our screens simultaneously, drawing parallels and patterns seems inevitable. Now that Nixon has called in an actual branch of the U.S. military, comparisons between Ferguson and Gaza \u2014 linked, on Twitter, via the hashtag \u201c#oppressed\u201d \u2013 are unlikely to let up.
