I started this school year with a job in retail and little motivation. Sure, I was working for minimum wage like the average college student, and I was grateful to at least have a job, but I felt like I was wasting my time on something I wasn’t passionate about. When Johannes Wich-Schwarz, my professor at Maryville University and a member of the PEP board, told me I could apply for an internship as a student activist coalition coordinator, I jumped on the chance. I couldn’t think of a better internship; working for something I actually believed in, something that actually helps other and will make an impact; it was an opportunity I couldn’t miss.<\/p>\n
STACS, the Student Activist Coalition of St. Louis, is the organization I am coordinating. It was established as a PEP youth initiative and works to bring together progressive student groups on campuses all around St. Louis so that we can communicate more effectively and share our ideas and accomplishments. STACS will also be gathering student written activist and peace related articles to produce a literary collaboration in the spring. Also, in the spring semester, we plan to have a conference open to all of the different progressive groups we will be associated with. It’s a student run machine that will increase awareness on campuses and provide resources for student groups, so that we may spark an interest in activism and erode apathy in the young adults of St. Louis.<\/p>\n
I’m excited to see STACS move forward throughout the year and I’m very glad to be on board with the Peace Economy Project. This is an incredible opportunity and STACS will strive to make a difference for the better in the St. Louis community.<\/p>\n
