{"id":1190,"date":"2013-03-15T15:25:19","date_gmt":"2013-03-15T21:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peaceeconomyproject.org\/wordpress\/?p=1190"},"modified":"2013-03-15T15:25:19","modified_gmt":"2013-03-15T21:25:19","slug":"paul-krugman-paul-ryans-budget-is-a-path-to-continued-depression","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peaceeconomyproject.org\/wordpress\/paul-krugman-paul-ryans-budget-is-a-path-to-continued-depression\/","title":{"rendered":"Paul Krugman: Paul Ryan&#8217;s Budget Is &#8216;A Path To Continued Depression&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Bonnie Kavoussi, Huffington Post<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/03\/13\/paul-krugman-paul-ryan_n_2867997.html\">click here for original article<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/budget.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/fy14budget.pdf\" target=\"_hplink\">Paul Ryan&#8217;s budget plan<\/a>\u00a0promises to &#8220;help grow our economy today.&#8221; Paul Krugman says that&#8217;s rubbish.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/krugman.blogs.nytimes.com\/2013\/03\/13\/night-of-the-living-alesina\/\" target=\"_hplink\">The Nobel Prize-winning economist and New York Times columnist wrote in a blog post<\/a>\u00a0Wednesday that Ryan&#8217;s latest budget proposal would hurt the economy by slashing government spending, including repealing Obamacare&#8217;s health insurance expansion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This particular &#8216;Path to Prosperity&#8217; is, in the short to medium term, very much a path to continued depression,&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/krugman.blogs.nytimes.com\/2013\/03\/13\/night-of-the-living-alesina\/\" target=\"_hplink\">Krugman wrote<\/a>. &#8220;Luckily it isn&#8217;t going to happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ryan&#8217;s proposal, which would\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/budget.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/fy14budget.pdf\" target=\"_hplink\">cut the budget<\/a>\u00a0by $4.6 trillion over 10 years,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/03\/13\/paul-ryan-budget-poor_n_2861042.html\" target=\"_hplink\">slashes funding<\/a>\u00a0for government programs that help the poor, like Medicaid. Though the plan<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/03\/12\/paul-ryan-budget-jobs_n_2862283.html\" target=\"_hplink\">is unlikely to become law<\/a>, if it were implemented,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/03\/12\/paul-ryan-budget-jobs_n_2862283.html\" target=\"_hplink\">it would shrink the U.S. economy and eliminate 2 million jobs<\/a>\u00a0in 2014 alone, according to an analysis by the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Krugman, who\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/03\/12\/paul-krugman-paul-ryan_n_2862541.html?utm_hp_ref=business\" target=\"_hplink\">called Ryan&#8217;s plan cruel<\/a>\u00a0yesterday,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2012\/08\/13\/paul-krugman-paul-ryan_n_1772105.html\" target=\"_hplink\">has been criticizing Ryan for years<\/a>.
