St. Louis Stands with Standing Rock
Thursday, Sept. 8
5:30 – 7 p.m.
St. Louis Arch Riverfront
Join Mobilize Missouri, Big Muddy Adventures and several other local organizations as we show our support for the tribes gathered at Camp Sacred Stone and Camp Red Warrior on the Sioux Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota the evening before a federal judge issues a key decision regarding a request to halt construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. The following day Alderwomen Christine Stroer Ingrassia andMegan-Ellyia Green will be introducing a resolution at the Board expressing solidarity with Indigenous resistance to this project.
This new pipeline not only negatively impacts the Sioux and people of the northern plains; it will run directly under the Missouri River twice. The Missouri provides our source of drinking water, as well as for millions of Americans downstream. As the actions have increased against the tribes at Standing Rock, it’s more important than ever to raise awareness around this issue and to show we will stand with them in support and
solidarity.
Big Muddy Adventures will begin a canoe trip near the Chain of Rocks Bridge and our City’s water treatment facility at 3 p.m. and land along Leonor K. Sullivan Blvd. at the base of the Gateway Arch at 5:30 p.m. There will be speakers present along with information about other ways you can get involved. More specific details to follow.
