Letter to the Executive Director Re “Digital Agents”
Below is a letter to the Executive Director from Peace Economy Project supporter, John Kintree. If you would care to write a letter to the Executive Director, please email us.
How close are we to building a global digital platform capable of engaging in conversations with millions of people simultaneously, and can merge those conversations into a representation of the collective will of humanity? It’s possible that by the end of this year, 2024, digital agent software will be available that can run on smartphones and other personal devices, playing a significant role in developing such a global platform.
If at some point I have a digital agent running on my smartphone, I know what I want to say to it: “Jaybay, I recognize the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Earth Charter, and would like to unite with other people around the world in realizing those principles.”
Then it would be Jaybay’s job to connect with the digital agents running on other people’s devices, handling the language translation, and merging of knowledge and sentiment.
The technology is probably the easiest part of this endeavor. The greatest uncertainty is whether humanity will unite behind a core set of principles and constitute ourselves as a global collective democracy.
Our digital agents will be learning from us; we should teach them well.
