In Defense of Public Broadcasting: Invest in People, Not Propaganda

The Peace Economy Project strongly opposes the proposed elimination of federal funding for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), National Public Radio (NPR), and their local member stations. As an organization committed to redirecting federal resources from militarization toward human-centered priorities, we recognize public broadcasting as an essential pillar of democracy, civic education, and cultural expression.

PBS and NPR are more than media outlets — they are trusted sources of fact-based journalism, educational programming, and storytelling that reflect the diversity and complexity of American life. In rural and underserved communities, these stations provide crucial access to information that supports informed decision-making and social cohesion. Defunding public broadcasting in order to expand military budgets betrays the public interest and undermines our collective well-being.

At a time when disinformation and division are on the rise, silencing public media threatens to erode the very foundations of democratic society. We call on Congress to reject these cuts and uphold its responsibility to fund institutions that educate, enlighten, and empower.

The Peace Economy Project envisions a world where resources uplift communities — not conflict. Defending public broadcasting is a step toward that vision.

🎙️ Take Action to Protect Public Broadcasting

Public media like NPR and PBS inform, educate, and elevate voices that often go unheard—especially in rural and underserved communities. Eliminating federal funding for public broadcasting is an attack on truth, education, and the democratic right to accessible, independent information.
