Intern for the Peace Economy Project and bring awareness to unchecked military spending!

The Peace Economy Project isn’t currently seeking interns at this time. Below we have information about previous internships, which will be similar to the internship programs PEP will have in the near future.

We’re looking for people with a strong commitment to social justice and uncovering the dangers about the military-industrial complex. We currently have positions open for a Congressional Lobby Internship and Organizing Internships.

PEP researches military spending, educates about the hazards of an unchecked military-industrial complex, and advocates for conversion from a military to a more stable peace-based economy. Internships will focus on helping PEP bring awareness to unchecked military spending to the St. Louis community.

 

Congressional Lobby Internship

The Peace Economy Project is currently seeking a motivated self-starter to help with our 2015 Appeal to Congress to reduce Pentagon waste. We’re looking for someone with a strong commitment to social justice and excellent communications skills who is comfortable educating the community and their Congressional Representatives on the dangers of unchecked military spending. You’ll also be traveling to Washington, DC in July to deliver our petition.

Summer Semester Internship
15-20 hours/week

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Gather signatures for PEP’s 2015 Congressional Appeal to be delivered to Washington DC
  • Research Congressional Representative and Senator positions on the military spending
  • Work with director to establish talking points for lobby visits, advocating for reduction in military spending
  • Establish meetings with Congressional Representatives and Senators
  • Travel to Washington DC with director to deliver signatures and lobby for a reduction in military spending

Organizing Internships
Issue area of focus and work plan to be developed in conjunction with executive director.

We focus our work in the following areas:

      • Cutting the Pentagon Budget
      • Transition from a War Economy to a Peace Economy
      • Local Military Contractor Research
      • Police Militarization

What you’ll learn:

      • Research and Writing skills
      • Community Organizing
      • Social Media Organizing
      • Event Planning
      • Understanding of the military-industrial complex

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

      • Assisting with research and organizing in one of our project areas
      • Developing social media content for our Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, as well as writing for our e-zine and blog from your research
      • Planning one educational event on your project area focus
      • Participating in and supporting PEPs program work and events
