PEP Selects New Executive Director
Jasmin Maurer, who has served as PEP’s executive assistant for the past six months, has been selected by the board of directors to serve as the new executive director of PEP starting Feb. 1, 2013. Sylvester Brown, Jr., who stepped in as interim director in September after our former director, Tila Neguse left to work for the Washingtn DC-based Friends Committee on National Legislation (FNCL), will resume his role as a board member.
Maurer hails from the Poconos of Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA where she studied writing. She moved to St. Louis in 2009 to take an AmeriCorps VISTA position with PeaceJam, a non-profit committed to encouraging youth to make positive change in themselves and their communities. Maurer also volunteers with Young Activists United St. Louis (YSTL) as a member of the coordinating committee. She became involved with the Peace Economy Project through her work with YSTL, and worked as a lobby intern, traveling to DC with Neguse to speak out against wasteful military spending.
Jasmin served an invaluable role as PEP’s executive assistant. Her passion, energy, activism and professionalism were key in convincing the board that she is the right candidate to navigate the helm of our organization. Please join us in welcoming Jasmin Maurer as PEP’s new executive director.
