Job Opening: PEP Is Recruiting A New Executive Director

The Peace Economy Project, founded in 1977, researches military spending, educates about the hazards of an unchecked military-industrial-congressional complex, and advocates for conversion from a military to a more stable peace-based economy. Qualified individuals are encouraged to apply to be the next Director of this unique non-profit organization.
The Director manages all day-to-day operations of the Peace Economy Project. This includes writing op-eds and letters to the editor to be published in local newspapers, speaking at rallies and events, and coordinating regular fundraising campaigns. The director is also responsible for maintaining relationships with the board of the organization, with fellow leaders in the peace and social justice community, and with members of the organization.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who possesses strong analytical skills and the ability to make complex military and federal issues relevant at the local level. While being able to work independently is vital for success in this position, experience as a community organizer and/or working within coalitions and the ability to build strong relationships are essential as well.
Position available is 40 hours per week

Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Publish monthly EZine and annual print newsletter
• Write emails, blog posts, web pages and newsletter articles
• Seek and coordinate public speaking opportunities
• Guide fundraising events and campaigns
• Attend coalition meetings on PEP’s behalf
• Recruit, hire and supervise interns
• Maintain web presence including social networking sites and
• Work with other peace and justice organizations nationally
• Ongoing outreach to local membership
• Maintain membership data base
• Bookkeeping and filing quarterly taxes
• Event and meeting planning, especially board meetings
• Write and research grants and grant opportunities
• Participate and coordinate lobbying efforts
• Two+ years’ experience in an executive role and/or with a non profit
• Commitment to the goals and mission of the Peace Economy Project
• Strong writing and research skills
• Public speaking experience
• Experience with Mailchimp, WordPress and/or Salesforce a plus
• Knowledge of the arms trade, nuclear weapons, and defense budget costs
